About Us

Crawford Doyle Booksellers is an old-fashioned independent bookstore located on a charming stretch of Madison Avenue, just around the corner from The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Our knowledgeable staff loves books, and our enthusiasm has earned us many loyal customers from the city and overseas. With titles in diverse fields including fiction, history, biography, religion, philosophy, and children's books, we cater to serious bibliophiles as well as people just discovering (or rediscovering) the joy of reading.

Sharing ideas and recommendations is one of the great pleasures of being in a small bookstore. Lively discussions about books are an everyday occurrence at Crawford Doyle, and that is what motivates our staff to stay abreast of literary news. In the interest of keeping the conversation going even outside of the store, we select some of our favorite new books that deserve special attention and write about them here.

Rare Books

In addition to our selection of new books, we also specialize in first editions of great literary works, primarily postwar American and British fiction. You can click here to search our inventory, or just stop by the store to see our beautiful collectables on display. Books listed can be purchased online (through AbeBooks) or simply by calling in or emailing us.

We are also happy to search for any out-of-print books that you are seeking. Successfully obtaining whatever book you may be looking for, no matter how rare, is always our goal.
